Protecting Your Treasures
Framing is most often praised for its decorative qualities used to enhance the art it surrounds. Perhaps even more important is the way proper custom framing can protect and help preserve art. If you don't want your art to fade, it must be framed using conservation glass. Unlike regular glass, this variety filters out 97% of the harmful UV rays, much like sunscreen protects your skin. Conservation grade matting should be used to protect your art from the acidity found in mats of lesser quality.
When you are having anything of value custom framed, it should be hinged or mounted in such a way that it is reversible back to its unframed state, without causing damage to the art. Also consider sentimental value. It can be just as important since you probably don't want your memories to fade or become discolored.
