About the Artist
Kay Apking, born in Ohio in 1957, returned to college to develop the finer points of her artistic skills and pursue her dream of maturing into an active member of the visual arts industry. As a non-traditional student, she majored in art at Peru State College in Nebraska, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in 1996.
Kay works primarily with pastels to develop an artistic reality of delicate color, shade and shadow. She extensively blends colors to fill her landscapes and still life compositions with that sense of color and shadowing sensitivity. The spontaneity of her work comes not only from the objects which are used to create her compositions, but also from the force of the colors and their blends.
During her senior year at Peru, Kay's works were featured in the campus' gallery, won awards and were included in traveling juried shows. Following graduation, her work was featured in a one woman show of the Jhindra Art Gallery of Peru State College. Her work has also been shown and sold at the International Art Expos of Los Angeles and New York.
Kay currently resides in Lincoln, Nebraska working in her private studio.
