About the Artist
I began working on a potter's wheel, after a difficult time in my llife. A friend, who happened to be an experienced potter, suggested I buy a kick wheel and work on making different shapes. I was offered an apprenticeship with two potters. After years of making functional pottery, I started experimenting with different firings.
Raku, which was developed by the Japanese in the 1600's, is a style of firing that is very intense. The piece is placed into the kiln and fired rapidly to 1750 degrees creating effects on the artwork that are truly one of a kind. The excitement for me being the potter and you being the art lover, is that the potter becomes a co-partner with the fire. The potter creating the shape and the fire creating an artistry of it's own. Each piece being uniquely different, just like you and me. My hope is for you to enjoy this one of a kind work of art.
